We went to Hobbycraft today and I got some sugar paste icing and a rolling pin so when we got back we all had a go at cake decorating. Our efforts are below, please note my pretty new cake stand from Wilkinsons!
1 - my attempt
2 - Marks attempt
3 - Romans attempt
4 - Anais attempt
Think the kids enjoyed it though they both preferred to squash the icing under their hands than use the rolling pin and Roman in the end didn't even bother to use the cutter but just chose to put the slab of icing on the cake regardless! Both were more interested in eating the icing than decorating with it!
Anyway I think this was more by luck than anything that this worked out. The youtube video used double crochet but I struggled with that as it made the stitches short and fat so I decided to follow the principles but make my own up! So I used treble crochet instead which I found made the stitches longer and easier to work with. It is not perfect and if you look closely there are MANY mistakes so I will have to try again (in a few days when I am recovered enough!) Now I have a little experience I may try to follow the pattern as it should be and it may come out as it should instead of my thrown together attempt! But I am quite pleased and feel like I have achieved something!
So what shall I use it for? I could get some pretty material and cover the jam jar lid and then use the jar as a canister............... or put a tea light candle in there and watch the flame flicker against the white and silver thread (thanks Jenny for the pretty wool!)
Anyway, at 11.15 now I am all crochet and blogged out and off to bed, night xx
