Our last day and it has been beautiful warm and sunny. We went for a walk around Bowness after breakfast. We went to Fell Foot Park. Our Coastal Crochets at Fell Foot Park. We had lunch at Claife Viewing Station and went for a little walk down to the shore, past the Freshwater Biological Association and to the car ferry (the car ferry is broken and not in use until October). Absolutely beautiful. Back to the apartment we had a little relax. Anais and Roman stayed behind to watch a film while Mark and I went for a walk around Bowness. "The Hole in T'Wall" in Bowness - The oldest pub in Bowness and frequented by Charles Dickens. Got its name because the blacksmith in the building next door knocked a hole through so he could be served drinks while he worked! Road trip scarf finished! N.B. to self, X4 50g balls, Sublime Baby Cashmere DK, 5mm hook, 40 rows Before tea Mark and I took a walk to the lake. We all went for a walk to Cockshot Point after tea and then around Fallbarrow. Mark and I went back to the lake tonight when it was dark. We saw the viewing station at Claife that we went to earlier today.

After breakfast we had a walk around Bowness. We drove over the Kirkstone Pass and past Ullswater..................... We walked all the way to the top and had our lunch at High Cascades bridge. Roman tried to make boats and rafts from leaves. View of Windermere coming back over the Kirkstone Pass. On the way back we went via Grasmere for more gingerbread. Roman wanted to find "Dome House" (from Ch4 - Grand Designs) in Bowness. This evening we went to Kendal for tea. Mark had a beef burger, I had a veggie burger, Anais had a pizza and Roman had a lasagne.
When we got back we went to feed the ducks at Cockshot Point again. What an absolutely lovely day spent cruising on the lake.
We caught the first boat of the day and did this - * Bowness to Ambleside * Ambleside to Wray Castle * Wray Castle to Brockhole * Brockhole to Ambleside * Ambleside to Bowness * Bowness to Lakeside * Lakeside to Bowness * Island Cruise We fed the friendly ducks at Ambleside who literally surrounded Anais and ran across our feet (good job we were wearing wellies!) We had a nice time looking around Wray Castle. Beatrix Potter used to holiday there when she was a child. We had our picnic lunch sitting in the sun, on the hill over looking the lake at Brockhole. Info from the Island Cruise - * the round house on belle Isle (the largest Island) has 12 sides (to represent each month of the year), 52 windows (to represent 52 weeks of the year) and 365 panes of glass (to represent each day of the year) * the previous (residential) owner of the Storrs Hall Hotel used to be a slave trader. In the cellar are still chains and shackles, evidence of this * there has been a ferry to get across the lake since the 1400s * the West side of the lake has one species of every tree native to England (Claife - previously owned by Beatrix Potter and left to the National Trust) Another walk to Cockshot Point tonight to feed the ducks. On the way back to the apartment tonight we saw some Irish dancers dancing on the promenade. This morning we got up and went to Kendal. We got Roman school shoes, trousers, shirts and a bag, Just trainers to get now. We then went to Sizergh Castle and saw the same friendly black cat that we have seen for the past two years. He sat on Romans lap. We went to Fell Foot Park and hired a row boat which Mark and Roman took turns to row. Finally, today we had another walk around Bowness this evening.
It was rainy again this morning. We got to Hill Top for when it opened at 10am and was one of the first families to go in the house. Fascinating! "The Tale of Samuel Whiskers" (a rat named after her childhood pet rat) was set in the house. She wrote the story after moving into Hill Top and having an invasion of rats. She bought three kittens (Tom Kitten, Moppet and Mittens) to catch the rats and caught 96 in total! We drove though Hawkshead but didn't stop and went to Tarn Hows. We walked all the way round and then stopped for lunch. We stopped off at Coniston and had a walk around the village. Here is the water. We went to Grasmere for gingerbread and had a walk around the village. We also went to Allens Bank (National Trust). We had a walk around Ambleside. And back for a walk around Bowness after tea. (We actually had two walks around Bowness tonight because Anais and Roman wanted to come back to the apartment at 8.30pm so we went out again by ourselves!) Oh, and we also had a walk around Fallbarrow Park. SO many lodges there now.
It was overcaast and rainy for most of today. First stop was a walk around Bowness and down to the lake which even on the most miserable of days is so pretty. We visited Lakeland and Footprint (Footprint is a National Trust property in Windermere). Back to the apartment for lunch we then went back to Windermere and went to Townend. We had a walk around Windermere. For years and years we have seen "Kendal Mint Cake" but never tried any until today. Its not actually a cake but more like the peppermint creams we make at Christmas. After tea we had another rainy walk into and around Bowness.
We left at 9am and planned to be at Rufford Old Hall for when it opened at 11am. Bad traffic on the motorway meant we did less than a mile in an hour and had to detour. We finally got to Rufford Old Hall at quarter to one. We stopped off at Kendal Asda for shopping and got to the apartment for 4.15. We had tea and went for a walk by the lake. This view gets me everytime! Through Ignes, up and over the hill and the first glimpse of Windermere. I had four 50g balls of this cashmere yarn. 50g used in Weymouth, two 50g balls done in the car on the horrible journey up. About to start the fourth 50g ball.
Anais is registered for her college course. Coastal crochet up to date........... One round of Sophies Universe done. Part 15 finished.
Well done Anais on your exam results, we are proud of you! Romans friend Corey came round today. I made an almond cake. One round done of Sophies Universe, 31 popcorns on each side, 124 total popcorns on this round. Romans swimming lesson was cancelled. We asked Anais if she wanted to go out for tea or get some pizza in and watch a film and she wanted to watch "The Black Panther" so we stayed in.
I haven't touched Sophies Universe since the middle of July. Round 99 done today. It is getting longer to do each round now. It took a while to sort these out earlier because they were covered in dried grass. Roman picked these pine cones on Friday while we were taking the awning down and we put them out today to prepare for autumn. Anais made this dragon with her 3D pen.
