We went for a walk to the bridge after tea today instead of before tea and it was nice seeing the sun set. We also noticed there were more wild horse and ponies out later in the day than earlier. We have also seen wild rabbits (or hares) but they are too fast for us to get a photo of them.
Little bird outside the cottage this morning. We went to Newquay. We had a picnic on the beach, Anais and Roman had a paddle and played in the sand and we walked around the town. We googled this house on the hill which is reached by a bridge and there is an article in the Daily Mail on it. On the way back we stopped off at Carnwas at Bedruthan. Very, very pretty but scary getting close to the edge! Check out the size of that beetle! We also managed to get Anais some new wellies from Tesco Wadebridge (size 7!) after one of hers split earlier this week, then the other split a few days later. The only wellies we have seen the last few days are calf length ones and ideally we wanted knee length ones, so she is pleased now as she can paddle in the shallow part of the river and keep her legs dry when it rains! Firstly, photo's refused to upload in gallery format then they were duplicated many times over and I had to delete. The last set of photo's I have uploaded to a slideshow instead and it has taken HOURS.

This morning we went to Lanhydrock. Anais and Roman did the trail around the house and got a badge each. This afternoon went nice and sunny and Anais and Roman wanted to walk back to the Delphi Bridge. Animals we saw on the moors today - sheep cows/bulls horses We walked back to Delphi Bridge and found a little bridge which we walked over and carried on walking....................... We wanted to get to the other side of the water but didn't want to walk back to the bridge. Mark had the bright idea to cross the river at a shallow point, which we all did, only to find that whichever direction we went to, we were on an island surround by deeper river! Eventually we had to cross the river three times as we had got lost in the little network of streams, rivers, bushes and shrubs. Mark dropped the flask so he and Roman had to chase it down the river and jump in after it! Fun times! One of the ponies at the cottage. Sky here at night, so dark except for the stars. No street lights at all.
This morning we went to Padstow which was very, very busy. We had lunch at The Falcon pub In Waybridge. Mark had gammon, chicken and mustard pie, I had beef lasagne, Anais had burger and chips and Roman had the vegetarian pasta. From there we went to Bodmin for a walk around the town centre. Bulls on the moor, driving back to the cottage. Back to the cottage for a cup of coffee we then went out to the moors to fly the kites. At one point we had three kites up! We have Mark's stunt kite which to be honest is a bit rubbish, a cheap £5 kite which is also a bit rubbish and a bargain (and now very old) basic kite which was reduced to £1 in Boots years ago and stays up even with the smallest gust of wind! Anais and Roman do not like that kite though as it is so basic and doesn't do tricks, so I was left to hold it and stand on the side while everyone else was trying to fly the other kites. Mark won Cluedo this evening.
Are these wild? View out of our bedroom window this morning!
Storm Katy may have hit but we have been nice and cozy and warm. We are in a rebuilt barn and the walls are thick, we only noticed signs of a storm this morning with hail stones on the velux windows. A few more photo's of the inside of the cottage.
Before we went out we went to see the horses and ponies.
We then drove to Port Isaac and had a walk around.
Doc Martin's house, now a holiday cottage to let called "Fern Cottage".
A strange thing to see on the walk back to the car - a frog!
We had lunch at the car and then walked around the corner and down the hill to Port Gaverne.
Back to the cottage to unload our things and have a warm drink we then set off to Delphi Bridge which we drove over on our way here and thought looked lovely.
Mark's first 360 degree shot below (click to enlarge)!
We walked through marshes and bogland, got caught in a hail storm and Anais' welly developed a leak but we had fun and it was stunning when we got there.
The De Lank River.
Absolutely stunning when we got there.
When we got back we had baths and hot chocolate to warm up.
This evening Roman and I stayed in our pyjamas in the warm while Mark and Anais braved the rain to go and see the ponies. They saw a rainbow. HAPPY EASTER!!!!!!!! Roman's lovely Easter card We had a walk around the cottage while Easter lunch was cooking. Anais and Roman made a cake. These stunning tapestries in the bedroom were done by the owner, Brenda, in 2002. The attention to detail is amazing with hundreds on tiny beads embroidered in too. I love them. Easter lunch - turkey mashed potato red cabbage brocolli carrots and sweede roast parsnips roast beetroot stuffing gravy After lunch we visited Tintagel and visited The Old Post Office.................. ......................and Boscastle. The weather alternated between nice and sunny but windy and heavy rain and even windier. Tea was cheese and crackers and (leftover turkey) sandwiches. This evening before it went dark we went to see the horse and ponies. This evening we played Cluedo.
I still have a cold but my tooth ache has subsided a little. Downside is, as I am feeling run down with a cold, I have come out in a nasty red rash again :-( We got up and drove to Knightshayes (National Trust). We then drove to a pretty little cottage in the middle of nowhere! We have a washing machine/dryer and even liquid detergent is supplied. Washing up liquid, kitchen foil, kitchen roll, cling film is also supplied. The beds were made up when we got here and everything is lovely, clean and fresh. It is also central heated so we are lovely and warm despite it being cold, dark and wet outside. The ceiling has exposed beams (Mark forgot to take a photo of those). Did I mention the free WIFI which seems to be FAST so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are LOTS of various DVD's to watch ranging from U to 18 rating. There are plenty of books to read and lots of games for children. Roman coloured some Easter bunnies in Jenny bought for him last year which he saved for this year and we made a little Easter display. We were left fresh carnations, a bag of galaxy eggs for Anais and Roman, fresh milk, scones, jam and clotted cream. We brought the embroidered Easter towel from home to add to the festivities. View to the back of the cottage. View to the front of the cottage. After tea we watched "Hop".
We had a nice day out today at Wightwick Manor. Jenny came back for some tea and we watched Cirque Du Soleil.
Well done Roman - he came home with certificates for 100% attendance this term, a science award (for his project) and a certificate for excellence representing the school (for his trip to the memorial on Monday).
Sophie so far........................ about to start part 10! A lovely day today. English group this morning, I had a lovely bunch of flowers from Sarah (the tutor) for helping out with the exams at short notice last week. This afternoon was craft group but I had to leave early so I took crochet fried eggs to make for the short time I was there! This evening Anais had a violin concert which was fantastic! We went to the library first and then a wander around Brindley Place. Very proud as they played lovely and the Forrest Gump theme tune made me weep (a little!) Thanks mom and dad for picking Roman up from school for us, he had a nice time.
No blog from Anais and Roman tonight as we got back late (just before 10pm in the end) due to a hold up in the car park and not being let out immediately and a diversion on the dual carriageway by our house which meant we had to re-route. Three years ago today a conifer tree fell down in the back garden under the weight of snow. PROJECT 1 This morning I had to undo a whole row of Sophie as I realised on the next round I had put stitches in the wrong place. Photo from this evening.................. While Mark watched "The Night Manager" I managed another round. PROJECT 2 Also - 54 yellow centre's made 21 white outers made 33 white outers left to do (Another "fried egg blanket") Anais went to orchestra. Roman went to cooking club and made Easter crispy cakes and homemade lemonade. Roman built this to enter a Lego competition to make a rescue vehicle using bricks from one complete set.
It is called "Roman's Rescue Rover" and has a fire hydrant on it to extinguish fires, a rescue hook and rope to pick up vehicles or people, a flashing emergency light and I have forgotten the rest! But Roman knows what all the bits and bobs poking out are for. Built by Roman! |
